Upper School Dress Code

Student clothing should be neat, modest and appropriate to the educational setting. Older students are role models for those in the lower grades and as such must take responsibility for the school dress code.  Dress code rules apply at all times a student is on campus -- including after school. Students inappropriately dressed will be sent to the office and required to change their clothes.

Overall:
Clothing, jewelry, and hairstyles should make no reference to drugs, alcohol or tobacco. Sexual innuendo, profanity, and statements which are culturally or racially offensive are also prohibited.

Students must wear shoes at all times while on campus. Sandals are acceptable for class time, sneakers and socks are needed for PE.

Boys and girls may wear hats with brims, but must be removed indoors.

Boys:
Shirts: Muscle shirts, cut-off shirts, basketball jerseys with large armholes, and mesh-type jerseys can be worn only if there is another shirt with sleeves underneath. All shirts must be long enough to tuck into the pants.

Pants: Pants that fall below the waist or expose the underwear beneath may
not be worn. Shorts must have an inseam of at least 4". No cut-offs or special use shorts (swim suits, beach shorts, trunks, bike shorts, etc.).

Girls:
Tops: Sleeveless tops must have a minimum width of 2 inches across the shoulders. No "men's sleeveless undershirts". No cleavage or display of the midriff should be visible. At no time should the belly be exposed including when lifting arms or carrying a backpack.  Nor should the "rear" show when bending over or sitting down.  Necklines should be modest and exclude deep V or scoop styles.  Tank tops or camisoles, which do not meet dress code, cannot be visible underneath another shirt or sweater (layering).

Shorts & Skirts : Shorts and skirts are permitted: length is regulated.  To determine appropriate length, students should drop their hands to their sides.  If the length of the shorts or skirt is above the students fingertips, the article of clothing is too short.  Generally this means a 4" inseam.  For skirts, the back of the skirt must be in equal lenght to the front when measured up from the floor.

Dresses: Dresses must have straps that meet the minimum 2 inch shoulder requirement and skirt length requirement.

Underwear: Underwear is required, but should not be visible at any time for any reason.  This includes underwear lines visible underneath clothing, an indication that the clothing is too tight.
