On
June 5, the Class of 2012 celebrated their transition
from Middle School to Upper School. The students worked
cooperatively to organize the ceremony and decorate the
pavilion, which was lovely.

Speaker, Koffi St. Cyr, a CDS graduate, was “touched
beyond belief” to be asked to speak at the
celebration. Of his two years in Middle School,
he reflected that Ms. Baker “ saw things in
me that I probably to this day still do not see
in myself.” Mr. St. Cyr also spoke of respect,
to “respect yourself, because no one can do
that for you,” to respect your parents and
|
“trust
in the wisdom that they have accumulated over the years.”
| The
Class Salutatorian asked his class to stand up and
applaud their families. He reminded his classmates,
“Our parents make sacrifices for us so we can
go to Country Day, and that is one reason why I
wanted you to thank them.” He spoke of his
determination to work hard in school this year,
as he understood that good study habits |

in
eighth grade translate into a successful Upper School
experience. He left the class with these words of wisdom:
“If you believe in yourself, you will prosper.”
 |
The
Valedictorian focused on the compassion and loyalty
her classmates have for one another, “you are
never alone, especially not here!” After speaking
about the class of 2012’s many accomplishments
in academics, the arts and sports, she reminded
her classmates, “use your abilities to serve
God, one another and the community in a way that
no one else can.” |
The
four Middle School advisors - Ms. Keylin, Mr. Forrester,
Ms. Newman and Ms. Baker- presented each eighth grader
with a handmade certificate that recognized each students
unique contribution. The students, in turn, presented
small gifts to all Middle School teachers in appreciation
for their hard work. Finally, the students bid farewell
to Music teacher, Cherith Wagner, and 8th Grade Core
teacher, Mr. Forrester. The celebration ended with students
performing an original song.
