Eighth
Grade Celebrates
 |
"The
energy from this group would easily fill any room."
recalls guest speaker Linda Yoder of the class of 2011,
"These students didn't come in quietly; they came in
chatting, laughing, |
|
| skipping,
running--basically any kind of forward motion."
Mrs.
Yoder gave each student a memory bag containing a cotton
ball (as a reminder of warm cozy feelings), a

band (for all the hugs we shared), a chocolate kiss (for
comfort in sad times), a tissue (to dry tears of a friend),
a sticker (so Jamesy doesn't think he's ahead of the class),
a toothpick (to pick out the good things in Upper School),
a band-aid (to help heal hurt feelings), an eraser (to
remind the students that making mistakes is okay), a bookmark

and
a small crystal ball (to look back and mark fond memories
or look to the future and set new goals. And finally a
mint, to let the students know how much they mean to her.
The
Valedictorian quoting Beth Merde Conry said, " 'A
journey begins not with the first step but with the desire
to go where you

 |
have never
gone.' This quote, not only represents my personal philosophy
but our class as well; I can see the desire to achieve and experience
new things in everyone and with this desire, we are all going
to places we have only dreamt of." Kaitlyn went on to showcase
the many achievements of her classmates-- academically, creatively
and athletically.
The Salutatorian spoke of memories. Memories of her first day
at CDS in third grade, memories of the fear of starting Middle
School, and memories of Mini Gusto trips. She spoke of how these
moments have bonded her classmates together, " I think these
friendships definitely will leave a mark on me forever."
