Fourth
graders attended a field trip to the historical sites
surrounding Salt River. Mr. Chandlee and Mrs. Komlancs
classes were taken on a tour by Brian and
Jill Updyke
of Virgin Kayak.
Mr. Updyke presented his one of a kind Carib Canoe and other
interesting artifacts relating to Tiano and Carib history.
The
field trip was an interesting opportunity for students
to experience the anniversary of Christopher Columbuss
ships landing on St. Croix
and
how the Native Virgin Islanders may have been affected as
a result of this experience centuries ago.
Science Teacher Caren Martin led discussions from a more scientific
approach, explaining the habitat associated with the mangroves.
