Recycle
the CDS Way -- With the Three "R's"

The three Rs at CDS are not just Reading,
Riting, and Rithmetic, They are Reduce,
Reuse, and Recycle. From preschool to graduation students
are encouraged to be environmentally conscious when it comes
to waste. When we look at Anquilla Landfill, we know that
too much garbage pollutes our fragile St. Croix corner of
planet Earth! On campus, a group of energetic Lower School
students in grades three and four head up an effort to study
the three Rs and promote recycling.
The Enviro Club advertises for recycling and bags aluminum
cans all year long. Members of the school community may drop
their aluminum cans off any time on the Lower School science
patio, our own CDS Recycling Center. The cans
gathered there are delivered monthly to the recycling center
in Annas Hope.
Another
item that CDS recycles is the plastic 6 and 8- pack rings
that can choke fish or fool a sea turtle. The Enviro Club
collects them and ships them off to a plastic recycling center
stateside.
Newspapers are the third material accepted at our Recycling
Center. Enviro Club members bag up lots of newspapers
that get delivered to either a vetinarians boarding
facility or the St. Croix Animal Shelter for re-use.
CDS is
currently one of twenty-one Virgin Island schools participating
in a month long campaign to boost aluminum recycling. The
contest is sponsored by Waste Management. Pick-up date is
in early December. Were hoping to be a leader in caring
for our environment.
Items
to recycle right here at CDS are: Aluminum cans, newspapers,
and 6-8-pack plastic rings! Reduce! Recycle! Reuse!
