Middle
School Cleans Up

On September
16, for the fifth year, Country Day fifth through eighth graders
participated in the International Coastweeks Beach Clean Up.
As students
cleaned up the beach at Judith's Fancy, they collected data
on the type of garbage they removed. It was no surprise that
the largest number of items were glass bottles. There were
several tires that had been disposed of improperly. Two students
wrestled one tire out of a swampy area and rolled it to the
clean up area.
A parent spent over an hour cutting away a fishing net from
the rocks in which it was entangled. Students found the remains
of several fishing traps.
In only two hours students managed to completely fill the
bed of Mrs. Murphy's truck. It was two hours of community
service that benefited both the St. Croix community and
the sea life community!
