The Congressional Arts Competition is an annual nationwide Congressional High School Art Competition sponsored by the Congressional Arts Caucus and initiated by Members of Congress of the U.S. House of Representatives in their districts.

The painting, entitled "Sun's Rays" will be on display in the Canon House Office Building in Washington, D.C. for one year, where it will be seen by thousands of people and the winner will travel to Washington, D.C., to be nationally recognized.

Students from all three islands submitted their artwork that was judged on originality, craftsmanship and composition. The competition took place at the Virgin Islands Council on the Arts building on St. Thomas.

Upper School art teacher Monica Marin knows firsthand what a positive experience this event can be, as she submitted her work as a student, "I know how it inspired me as a young artist," Marin said. "Any kind of positive praise is good for these kids."
