Spike in Germany |
|
Ahoy!
Today,
I woke up to the voice of the captain of my ship the .
He said that we would arrive in Kiel, Germany in just
one and a half hours. I got up right away. It was time
to get ready, pack up, and get breakfast! I
looked out of my window and saw that it was very foggy
and wet. Oh well, I've been damp before!

Breakfast
was just like at my hotel in Sweden. As soon as breakfast
was finished, I went outside to look around. I went
out at the rear of the ship and was surprised to see
another big ship right behind us! I hoped that the captain
was paying
attention!

It
wasn't long until the ship had parked at its dock. We
were in Germany! Soon, I was off. The big trucks were
getting off
too. I had one more look at the ship before walking away.
Goodbye Götborg! Hello Kiel! |

Arriving
in Kiel
|
Kiel
is on the north edge of Germany. The plan for the day was
to travel by train to Lindau, which is on the south edge of
Germany. I would have to change trains a few times during the
day to get to Lindau. The first step was to find the train
station, called "der Banhhof". The railroad company
is called
"Die Bahn", or "DB". The station was a 10
minute walk from the
ship's dock. Inside the train station, things were busy. A
man helped to pick the trains that I would have to ride, and
checked the tickets. The time came quickly to get on the train.

This
train went to the city of Hamburg. In Hamburg, I got on
another train called ICE, which stands for "Inter-City
Express". This train was very modern and cool (of
course, it's ICE!). It went 200 km/hr, or 125 mph! Check
this out... |

After
a while on this train, it was time for lunch. Luckily,
the ICE train also had a dining car. The menu was hard
to read
for somebody who can't speak German, but the waiter
helped. The meal was pretzel dumplings with gravy, followed
by chocolate cake. Mmmmmm!

The
ICE train went to the city of Munich. In their own
language, German people call this city München. Along the
way
I saw cities, towns, villages, and farms. Germany is a very
pretty country. I noticed that some German people use solar
panels on the roofs of their houses, as well as windmills, to
make electricity without pollution.
In Munich, I had a short time for dinner - a Whopper and fries
from Burger King! Then it was back on a slower train headed
for a town called Kempten. I had to change trains again at
Kempten. This last train was supposed to take me to Lindau.
But there was a mistake...
Without knowing it, I had gotten on the wrong car of the train.
After going for a while, the train stopped at a station. While
we waited there, the car that we were in was unhooked from the
train, and the rest of the train went to Lindau without me!
My
car went with a different train in the wrong direction! Oh no!
Luckily, the train conductor helped to figure out where I could
get off this train so I could catch another train to Lindau.
She saved the day! I would still arrive in Lindau, only an
hour later than planned.

I
was so happy to get to Lindau. It was almost midnight.
I had gone all the way across Germany today! I was even
happier
to see my hotel, right behind the train station. The hotel
was very nice. The bed looked comfortable, and there was
even a chocolate coin with a gold colored wrapper on my
pillow!
That
was a long and exciting day!
I
can't wait to sleep,

Good
Night!

but then I can't wait to wake up and see what tomorrow will
bring!
Good night!
