This exercise is designed to see how well kids can proof read and spell-check writing. It highlights the importance of proof reading even though computer spell-check tools have gotten stronger and better in the last couple of years that they were prior to this. Here's how the exercise goes.
1a. Read all of this before clicking on the link below.
1b. Once you've read all of this, then click on the link below that says "click here for document."
1c. Keep these instructions open and refer back to them constantly.
2. Copy the section between “"-----Start of Document-----" and "-----End of Document-----"
3. Paste it into your word processor
4. You should save the file at this point in your folder as
[your username] spell proof.doc
For those who are limit to filename lengths, create an appropriate file name.
5. Perform a Save As and change the file name to
[your user name] spell checked.doc
6. Read the document once before doing anything.
8. Fix all the mistakes.
9. Save the file.
10. Perform a SAVE AS. Save it in your folder and do a save as calling it
[your username] proof read.doc
11. Go back and proof read the document. You may do this as many times as you would like. Proof reading is not a ONE TIME check. But for the purposes of time, this exercise may be a one time check. If there is time left read it again and again.
12. Save the file.
Note: The document itself makes some indications as to corrections that need to be made.
Good Luck!
