Juniors

You are three quarters of the way to the finish line.

As a junior, there are many things you should do now to make sure your senior year runs smoothly.


What's the next step?

To ensure admissions to colleges and universities of your choice, you must be sure to follow your timetable so that your application process is less stressful and more enjoyable next year. Your senior year is not the time for "catch up"!

Think about a summer program - a great head start.

 

Junior Year Timetable

August-September

_____ Make sure that your course selections meet the requirements for high school graduation and for the colleges you may wish to attend.

_____ Study college catalogs and guidebooks.

_____ Attend class meeting to learn about the October PSAT.

_____ Attend college representative meetings to learn more about colleges you are considering.

_____ Find out what information your school has about colleges.

_____ Obtain a social security number as you will need it for college and financial aid applications.

October

_____ Take the PSAT.

_____ Encourage your parents to attend back-to-school night so they will become familiar with your class schedule, teachers, and school.

_____ Continue attending college representative meetings

_____ Begin writing to colleges for information.

_____ Organize a filing system to keep information on individual colleges.

November

_____ Continue writing to colleges for information.

_____ Continue attending college representative meetings.

_____ Make plans to visit several colleges if possible over the Christmas break.

_____ Discuss financing your college education with your parents.

December

_____ Discuss your PSAT scores with your Mrs. Nurse and use the scores to guide your college plans.

_____ Visit colleges you are interested in during your vacation.

January

_____ Prepare for semester tests because colleges are interested in your grades.

_____ Make possible Program changes for second semester.

January-May

_____ Review your four-year plan of classes. Pay close attention to courses that will be required for college entrance.

_____ Select courses for the next school year that are- compatible with your college and career goals.

_____ Reduce number of colleges that interest you.

_____ Write for information and applications from colleges that definitely interest you.

_____ Visit colleges for admissions interviews and tours during Spring break.

_____ Meet with Mrs. Nurse about applying to colleges.

_____ Prepare individually or take a course to prepare for college admissions tests.

_____ Take the ACT (administered by CDS) and the May SAT I on appropriate dates.

_____ Take advanced placement tests for AP courses you are completing.

_____ Prepare for second-semester tests.

June

_____ Take SAT II.

_____ Make plans to visit colleges during the summer.

_____ Complete your written record of your junior year.

_____ Save samples of your work, newspaper clippings, and copies of your grades.

Summer

_____ Continue reading program.

_____Review for ACT or SAT.

_____Visit colleges for admissions interviews and tours.

_____ Complete application forms for colleges with early deadlines and begin rough drafts for your college essays.

_____ Complete housing applications, if appropriate.
